Speaker Profile:
Lt. Gen. (Retd) C.R.Sampath Kumar was commissioned in the regiment of Artillery in the Indian Army in 1961. During his service he took part in operations against the Chinese in 1962 and in the Indo-Pak wars of 1965 and 1971. He commanded an Artillery Brigade both in Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir where the Army was actively involved in fighting terrorism. He was a part of the Indian Army training team on deputation to Iraq for two years. He was also specially selected to be the Military Secretary to the President of India and held that appointment for three years. He held the important post of Director General, Discipline Ceremonials and Welfare in Army Headquarters for three years prior to his retirement in 2001. During his service he had undergone important Military courses in USA. He is a distinguished Alumnus of Defense Services Staff College (DSSC) and National Defense College (NDC). He is also a Post Graduate in Defense Studies from the Madras University.
For his meritorious and distinguished service he was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM), Ati Vishist Seva Medal (AVSM) and Param Vishist Seva Medal (PVSM) by the President of India.
